Lanoguard

From developer-locked customizations to a merchant-friendly Shopify platform
Services Done:
Lanoguard is a UK family-run brand specialising in lanolin-based rust protection for vehicles, boats, and machinery, trusted by enthusiasts and a growing network of independent application centres across the UK and Ireland.

The challenge

Lanoguard came to oContis after repeated experiences with Shopify agencies that locked the brand into rigid customizations and poor code practices, requiring a developer for even small merchandising changes. The existing theme offered minimal flexibility for the merchant team, slowing campaigns and day-to-day updates while the business scaled its product range and B2B network.

The strategy

oContis began by migrating Lanoguard onto a Shopify 2.0 architecture the internal team could actually operate, replacing brittle customizations with maintainable sections and a clear development standard. As trust grew, the partnership expanded into conversion rate optimization through Shoplift, a B2B hub for application centre partners, checkout UI extensions, Shopify Functions, and a custom app stack designed for ongoing iteration without developer bottlenecks.

Merchant autonomy through Shopify 2.0

The legacy theme was rebuilt around Shopify 2.0 sections so Lanoguard's team can update layouts, launch campaigns, and adjust merchandising without filing a developer ticket. oContis replaced accumulated technical debt with patterns the merchant can own, improving day-to-day operations and reducing cost per change.

Conversion gains through continuous testing

oContis supports ongoing conversion rate optimization for Lanoguard through our Shoplift partnership, testing and refining key storefront journeys. Winning tests have delivered up to a 17.2% increase in conversions and up to 13.4% uplift in revenue per visitor across the DIY and application centre paths.

Application Centres built for nationwide discovery

For customers who prefer professional application over DIY, oContis built a nationwide finder powered by Google Maps API and Shopify metaobjects storing application centre data. Shoppers get a clear overview of independent garages and detailers using Lanoguard products, with dedicated metaobject template pages for each listing.

A B2B hub partners can manage themselves

A custom middleware application built with Gadget lets B2B application centre partners manage their own listings: edit centre information, log jobs completed, and receive enquiries from Lanoguard customers via their dedicated metaobject pages. Lanoguard retains oversight without manually updating every partner record.

Checkout extensions for wholesale and partner workflows

Beyond the storefront, oContis helped Lanoguard extend Shopify for wholesale and partner workflows, including checkout UI extensions and Shopify Functions tailored to how the brand sells through its application centre network. Internationalization and SEO foundations support growth across UK and export markets.

Results

Lanoguard now runs on a maintainable Shopify foundation the merchant team can update independently, with oContis as an ongoing development and optimization partner rather than a bottleneck. Shoplift-powered CRO tests have reached up to 17.2% increased conversions and 13.4% revenue per visitor on winning variants. The Application Centres feature has become the brand's highest-traffic page according to Google Search Console, with an estimated £1M+ in attributed revenue since launch.
