The Film

Bardejov is a World War II drama based on true events in the Slovak town of Bardejov, where a Jewish community rallied together to save their daughters from deportation to Auschwitz. Directed by Danny A. Abeckaser, starring Robert Davi, and distributed by Gravitas Ventures with a theatrical and VOD release in March 2024.

The Challenge

Period films live or die by how authentic they feel. The biggest challenge on Bardejov was sourcing and designing ambiences and sound effects that accurately represented 1940s wartime Slovakia. No modern sounds could leak in. Every footstep, room tone, crowd murmur, and environmental texture had to feel historically grounded, without pulling the audience out of the era.

What I Delivered

85 minutes of wall-to-wall sound design covering:
Period-accurate ambiences — town squares, interiors, streets, all built to feel like 1940s Eastern Europe
Sound effects design — military vehicles, weapons, crowd chaos, and domestic scenes, all sourced and shaped to avoid anything anachronistic
Full sound editing and mix — dialogue editing, effects layering, and final mix
Every sound was researched, sourced, or designed from scratch to serve the story without drawing attention to itself. Restraint mattered more than spectacle here.

The Result

The film received a theatrical release and VOD distribution through Gravitas Ventures. The official trailer was featured on IGN Movie Trailers and Film Threat.
