“Pleven in the 21st Century” is more than a book - it is a documentary chronicle of the city’s development at the beginning of this century. With over 750 photographs and vast statistical and business data, the publication aims to capture the transformation of Pleven and its region in a tangible format.
The challenge The book was already designed but it was more of a patchwork of many different, borrowed styles. This resulted in pages overloaded with images and text with no hierarchy, no breathing room and no consistent visual identity.
The solution I approached the project by transforming the extensive, unstructured material into a publication that feels organized, modern, and approachable. The goal was to bring rhythm and clarity — turning a dense compilation into a book that invites readers to explore Pleven’s 21st-century growth with ease and enjoyment, while fully preserving the author’s vision.
I redesigned the layout from the ground up, guided by a strong grid system, consistent typography, and generous white space. This structure established a clear visual hierarchy and harmony across the chapters, allowing over 750 images to enrich the narrative rather than overwhelm it.
Beyond design, I also handled the complete prepress preparation — ensuring every page was print-ready and technically optimized for large-scale production, blending aesthetic precision with production reliability.
