Overview 🔎
Rendez-vous – Researchers in conversation is a returning event created by Reatch and Science et Cité. It provides a space where direct interaction and conversation between scientists and the broad population can take place.
Problem & Solution 🤝
The requirement was to create a key image used for the website and marketing. The client wished to make a visual link between the location and the actual happening on the two days of the event. To emphasize this, the used colour palette and elements of the illustrations have been inspired by the actual location.
The illustrations display a “Rendez-vous” between a scientist and a representative of society in multiple situations which implies the idea of the event: The encounters look similar during the live event. The displayed situations cover a broad range of topics that were requested by the client: research, mobility, social science, humanities, arts, digitalization, and urban development.
The final result consisted of a key image including the various sceneries combined in one image. As more and more topics were required to be represented in the illustration, we decided to broaden the project and additionally create a set of isolated illustrations, which would represent the various topics individually and would suit better for certain messages.
Edition 2021
For the second event edition that took place in 2021, the topic was narrowed down to «gender» and «intersectionality».
Some of the situations have been modified to better address the focus theme. Also we have improved the illustrations to represent more diversity in showing different skin shadings.
Process 🛣
At the beginning of the project, the client could not yet provide a clearly defined briefing. I guided him through the design process with several rounds of low prototyping sketching until we understood what was needed and worked well.
As soon as the situations were displayed and the colour and style were defined, the final realization of the design was straightforward and received very positive feedback from both client and event visitors.
2021
