Therapy 4.0 – Scene Sample

A short scene written for a contemporary musical theater project exploring womanhood, humor, and emotional resilience.
The story centers on Martina, a 41-year-old mother navigating separation, financial pressure, and self-discovery through therapy sessions. Her voice blends sarcasm, tenderness, and raw honesty — balancing laughter and vulnerability in equal measure.
This sample captures the tone of the play: relatable, cathartic, and deeply human. Each line was crafted to invite empathy, spark laughter, and reveal transformation through everyday struggle.
🎭 Genre: Musical Theater / Comedy-Drama 🪶 Style: Conversational, expressive, emotionally intelligent 💫 Focus: Storytelling that connects humor and healing
🎭 Therapy 4.0 – Scene 2: “Ponete a Pagar”
Setting: Therapist’s office. Warm afternoon light. Sound: A slow exhale before the storm.
Martina (to the audience): Did you ever get one of those “gentle reminders” from the bank? Yeah, I’ve got one too… but it’s got my ex’s name on it. (pause) Gentle reminder #48: “PAY UP, YOU HARDHEADED SAINT.”
Therapist (voice off): Martina, were you able to talk to him this week?
Martina: Talk? Oh yes – to myself, in the mirror. I said: “Relax. You’re just single-handedly funding three kids, the mortgage, and your own therapy so you don’t hate the guy.” (beat) Because, you know, future therapy for the kids would cost even more.
Therapist: This is your space to let it out, Martina —
Martina: Perfect! Because what I feel is that I’d like to hang him — not by the neck, mind you, but like a piñata at the kids’ next birthday party. At least that way he’d finally contribute something!
Therapist: Let’s try not to let emotions take control…
Martina (eyes wild, to audience): Too late for that, Doc. I’ve been possessed by the Spirit of Divine Justice itself — PONETE A PAGAR! 🎸🔥
