What would it be like if you couldn’t see? The most painful challenges in our world go unseen every day. You can’t always see if someone is starving, sexually exploited, suicidal, or impoverished. Unfortunate situations often aren’t discussed because of their sensitive, deep nature, which forces unhealthy cycles to repeat. Keeping quiet about situations solely because they are stigmatized does nothing to fix ongoing problems–it makes them worse. I’ve found that what causes closed-mindedness towards taboo topics is the inability to walk in people’s shoes and see their problems from an unbiased perspective. I believe the best way to combat closed-mindedness is through art and design. Some concepts are hard to explain or don’t make sense on paper, but somehow a simple illustration, symbol, or design gets the point across perfectly. I created 18 social media graphics for various companies that target unseen worldwide issues. Social media is the perfect place to start rewriting the narrative around social issues because it has the power to change minds and activate audiences. A well-developed social media feed is how successful brands maintain brand equity and attract valuable customers and clients.
