Excise & Taxation: Vehicle Registration System

Vehicle registration, tax engine and online payments for Punjab, Pakistan. Gov-scale system on a secured government cloud.

The project

A vehicle registration and taxation system for the Excise & Taxation Department in Punjab, Pakistan, a province of 127M people. It was built by the PITB (Punjab Information Technology Board) and hosted on the government's own secured cloud.

From counter to number plate

Registration takes 4 steps: owner, vehicle, purchase and challan. The officer picks the vehicle type, then the make, model and version in three taps, and the registration mark is allocated automatically.

Tax, calculated in real time

The system calculates the registration fee, token tax, withholding tax, number plate fee and smart card fee instantly from the vehicle's category, engine size and invoice value. No manual lookups and no calculation errors.

Paid online, confirmed instantly

Each challan comes with a PSID, so the owner can pay online, at any bank branch or at the counter. The payment gateway confirms payment in real time, the number plate is allotted the moment payment clears, and every tax and ownership change is logged.

Built for a whole province

Province-wide reports show registrations and revenue for all 9 divisions of Punjab, with targets and collection channels.

My role

I was part of the front-end, API integration and data management team at PITB. I built the React interfaces, connected them to the .NET C# back end, and worked on data handling for registration, tax and payment records.
