Automation System for Excavation Company

A mid-sized excavation company struggled to track employee work hours, vehicle usage, and project timelines effectively. They relied on manual spreadsheets and handwritten logs, which often resulted in errors, time theft, and lost visibility across active job sites. Managers spent hours every week reconciling data instead of focusing on operations.

I designed and deployed a self-hosted automation system that centralized all time and vehicle tracking into one smart dashboard. The system automatically collected and synchronized data from employees and vehicles in real time—eliminating manual entry and providing managers with instant visibility into operations.

Built custom workflows in n8n, hosted on the company’s own server, to fetch and process time logs, GPS vehicle data, and project assignments.

Connected the workflows to Supabase as a backend for secure and scalable data storage.

Integrated vehicle GPS trackers and a lightweight mobile interface for employees to clock in/out from job sites.

Created a reporting dashboard to visualize vehicle usage, employee hours, and job progress in real time.

Set up automatic alerts for anomalies (e.g., overtime hours, idle vehicles).
