Global Co-Innovation Ecosystem: Designing for Social Impact Across 6 Nations

How Jemirae unified grassroots innovation and government policy for GAIN using AI-driven empathy and high-performance UI.

1. Executive Summary: Bridging the Policy-Grassroots Gap

In 2024, Jemirae, in collaboration with the Proportion Global team, was awarded a high-stakes contract by the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN). We were tasked with designing a digital bridge between high-level government policy and grassroots innovation.
Our mission was to engineer the visual architecture for a co-creation space serving policymakers, program leads, and field workers across diverse tech infrastructures in Nigeria, Rwanda, Mozambique, India, Bangladesh, and Ethiopia.
Services Provided: product design, ui direction, ux research ai strategy, system architecture

2. The Challenge: Designing Across Global Constraints

The primary obstacle was the Context Gap. What works in a tech hub like Abuja does not necessarily work in rural Kigali. We faced three systemic challenges:
Infrastructure Variance: Designing for users ranging from high-bandwidth government offices to low-connectivity rural field sites.
Data vs. Empathy: Traditional data collection felt "cold" and failed to capture the human stories needed for effective social protection.
Global Unification: Harmonizing the distinct cultural and technical needs of 7 different nations into one cohesive, high-performance UI.

3. Our Approach: Leadership & Regional Intelligence

As the Lead Design partner, Jemirae provided the Global UI Direction and led the Regional Research (Nigeria).
Deep-Dive Research: We conducted on-the-ground sessions in Abuja with the Head of the National Home Grown School Feeding Programme (NHGSFP) to map the local tech landscape.
Visual Strategy: We directed the UI for the entire platform, ensuring that the complex requirements of 6 nations were unified under one seamless brand identity.

4. Innovation Highlight: The AI-Powered Empathy Pivot

During our research, we discovered that while stakeholders asked for data, field users needed connection. Jemirae pivoted from traditional survey models to an experimental AI chatbot designed for qualitative story collection.
The Goal: Humanizing data by allowing field workers to share personal accounts of program success (e.g., improved child nutrition).
The Result: A "System of Collaboration" where technology serves human stories, not just spreadsheets.

5. The Final Architecture: Empathy-First SaaS

We designed a three-pillar platform focused on accessibility and Design for Participation:
Innovation Portal: A streamlined grid for managing multi-national challenges and projects.
Collaboration Hub: A journey-mapped space for real-time project co-creation.
The Academy: A centralized library of tools and templates optimized for low-bandwidth navigation.

6. Impact: Beyond the Pixels

Jemirae’s leadership resulted in a platform that meets the standards of Fortune 500-level NGOs:
Unified Global Vision: Successfully harmonized 7 country requirements into a single, cohesive brand experience.
Data with a Soul: Proved the viability of AI for collecting meaningful, personal qualitative data.
Institutional Trust: Established a high-fidelity output that bridges the gap between grassroots workers and international policymakers.
