I received this project from a gaming veteran enthusiast who as investing to revive his 20+ years old gaming faction. All members of which had gone well past 30 years of age. The client had already gone ahead and had a sketch artist to design the scenes (static images) as artwork for the site (one of them is above). After seeing these images I gave him an idea to bring this exact scene to life and asked the original artist to provide separate images for each interactive part so that I can put them all together as textures in Three.js for web-based interaction.

The first step was to identify which parts to bring to life and what level of detail we are willing to put into this interactivity. I explicitly provided the sketch artist with actual data which elements need to be separated and which textures I need separately (for example the ground in above image, it had to be changed into a full ground while in the original image he had only designed the visible part).

I also explicitly asked the artist to strip the scene of any VFX (for example he had designed a firepit, some embers flying around, wind going about etc.) all of this had to be recreated via WebGL VFX and render to site in real-time in randomized manner.
