Before we go into the body of this course, it’s important to understand that this isn’t an in-depth writing course. However, you can learn everything you need to learn to begin a content writing career from it. So, let’s get into it.
What is Content Writing? There are several definitions of content writing, but what is important is that they all eventually refer to the same thing. Content writing is simply the art of writing for blogs, websites, businesses and social media platforms. They can be owned by an individual, an organisation or a business. The purpose of content writing varies, but it can be to inform, to educate, to market and to engage the readers among other reasons.
I believe it should be clear at this point that when you go on Google or any other search engine and type a search command, what you get back are all forms of content, written by a content writer. As I said earlier, some blogs are owned by individuals, and if that individual is a writer, they can write their own blog content or get a professional content writer to write it.
The same applies to businesses and organisations. An organisation, for instance, can have a content writer as a member of its team or may need to hire one. Businesses can equally hire a full-time content writer, or a business writer as the case may be, to handle all their writing tasks.
Planning and Research When it has to do with content, you have to do proper planning and research to make sure that you are providing readers with the right information. Taking courses on Research can help you in this area– to make sure you know what you’re about to write on, and how to write it. And this takes us to one of the most crucial steps in content writing, structuring.
Structuring Structuring is exactly what you think it is. Every kind of writing needs to have order, and structuring is how you can achieve that in content writing. This has to do with every single detail you need to include in the content, how paragraphs and subtopics should be arranged, and making sure that every single sentence and paragraph has a clear connection with one another. This can come after you’ve written the piece.
Another very important aspect of structuring many writers ignore is the formatting of the content. This has to do with what kind of fonts and font sizes you use, how you justify the piece, and whether you make use of bullet points or embolden some words. The reason for this is to ensure that your piece is neat and easy to read. So, you see, content writing is easy, but also requires attention to details otherwise the readers will be bored and never read anything you ever write, again.
A big part of mastering and learning writing is in getting yourself to read. You can find examples of content writing on The Hybrid.
