Project Overview

Citrone is a learning management system (LMS) where users plan, implement and assess a specific learning process. It enables tutors to upload learning content, deliver lessons to students, get notifications and share data with authorized users.
My Role & Team
I led the led the design aspect of the project, translating product requirements into a retro-themed UI design.
Project Goal
Our goal was to improve the learning experience that allows users to track their learning progress easily, make a new intuitive user interface, enable users join live session through the website and add features that would allow user search and chat with different track members and their tutors.
Problem Statement
Students that use Citrone find it difficult to navigate the platform, from accessing learning resources to attaching file formats required for submission of assignments. This is a problem for users as these academic processes are cumbersome and time-consuming, thus, negatively affecting their learning experience. This is also a problem for the business as negative feedback from users creates bad PR for Citrone.

Understanding the Users

We Started the project by researching and interviewing some users which was led by me. These helped use to generate the problem statement, it was documented and used to map out our users journey.

Early Ideation

I started by analyzing the product requirements document and mapping out the user flow. We developed wireframes with a focus on addressing the core challenges.

Mockups And Visual Designs

We decided on the type of colors and icons that would best fit the product and its user.
Dashboard Section
After a user has successfully logged in, the user is taken to the dashboard where they can make quick actions like joining a recorded live session, searching for track members. The dashboard also includes viewing scheduled classes, view completed modules, assignment, view profile, recent activities and view your course progress.
Course Section
Users can access their course materials for different levels and also view assignment and quiz questions.
Student Assignment Submission Section
After each session, an assignment is given to test your knowledge. In this section you can view your assignment question and submit your answers.
Live Class Section
In this section users can join a live class and also recorded classes.

Key Learnings

Users are key, understanding the user is the first step to building a great project.
The project served as an eye opener as to why research is a very important step in product designing.
The design thinking process helps to understand the idea that you are working on.
Assumption should not be made for users, and feedbacks are very important.
Open ended questions helps get valid responses during research and design can always be improved.
Usability studies conducted also helped view the design from the users perspective.
