Streamlining search with AI power

Stephen W Law

Time frame: 6 weeks Role: UX/UI Designer Activities: User Research, Product Goals, UX Design, UI Design, Usability Testing Team: Product Manager, Architect, Tech Lead, 2x Software Engineer The initiative: To close a gap in the product and pilot this with our flagship client, a Big 4 Australian Bank. Key UI Heuristics: Control | Feedback & Inform | Flexibility | Aesthetic
Completed competitor UX analysis, interviewed 5 key stakeholders and members of our customer facing team, ideation workshops with 2 clients, concept tested internally and with clients, surveyed 5 end users and usability testing. Designed the UI for iteration 1 and 2 (Alpha, Beta) of an AI powered prompt and response built using a natural language processing model. The experience supports a single prompt, a search of related, asset managed resources, a multiline response with reference points and links, the ability to rate the response. Interrupt, stop, reset, error handling and copy response functionality was supported as a minimum requirement. First iteration would see a button to trigger a modal as the pattern. The second iteration would see the same button trigger a side drawer to slide into view taking up a third of the screen and pushing content and information into the remaining two-thirds of the screen. The purpose of this is to allow users to continue interacting with other important elements on the page. The modal does not allow the same flexibility.
