Overview
PANACEA is a speculative sci-fi novel exploring generational conflict, planetary migration, and the weight of humanity’s legacy. The design brief was clear: create a striking cover that feels cinematic, intelligent, and timeless — blending retrofuturism with contemporary visual precision.
The Brief
Design a Kindle and print-ready book jacket for PANACEA, with visual elements that echo epic space travel, cosmic logic, and the tension between organic life and technological futures. Before locking in the final direction for PANACEA, I explored multiple concept paths to visually represent the book’s central themes — cosmic inheritance, technology, evolution, and the fight for future worlds.
These early treatments focused on:
Before finalising the direction for PANACEA, five key visual studies were developed — each exploring a distinct narrative thread within the novel’s universe:
🌍 Planetary Launch — A symbol of human ambition and the ignition of migration. (Image 1)
🌅 Genesis & Rebirth — A silhouette against the rising sun, evoking new beginnings and hope. (Image 2)
👁️ Retinal Symbolism — The human–machine gaze representing genetic memory, AI, and surveillance. (Image 3)
☄️ Planetary Collision — Celestial motifs suggesting destruction, rebirth, and cosmic consequence. (Image 4)
🧠 Digital Circuitry — Neural networks and interfaces reflecting the omnipresence of technology and control. (Image 5)
We further explored:
Alternate spacecraft silhouettes
Typographic systems with symbolic geometry
Background environments: digital vs planetary
Visual hierarchy across formats

Final artwork

The front cover features a bold vertical rocket, glowing against a Martian sunrise. The spine is minimalist and clear, while the back cover contains neural network visuals, author bio, barcode, and story blurb — cleanly laid out for both physical and digital reads.
