Tirzah - A Pilates & Wellbeing App for New Beginnings
Tirzah is a Pilates and wellbeing app concept designed to help women build a movement routine, care for their bodies, and make time for themselves during new chapters of life.
The concept explores how a digital experience can make Pilates feel approachable and encourage women to develop a consistent practice at their own pace.
The Story Behind Tirzah
Starting a new chapter in life can bring many changes. Sometimes, it also creates an opportunity to reconnect with yourself and pay more attention to your wellbeing.
Life transitions, including the end of a marriage, can affect how a woman feels about herself, her routine, and the future she is building. During these periods, taking care of herself may become difficult to prioritise.
This inspired me to explore an app that brings movement and personal wellbeing together.
I chose Pilates because it offers an opportunity to build strength, improve body awareness, and create time for yourself. With Tirzah, I wanted to explore how a mobile app could help women discover classes, track their progress, and find welcoming spaces to practise.
The idea behind Tirzah is to encourage women to make room for themselves as they move into a new chapter of life.
The Design Challenge
I wanted to explore how a Pilates app could support women who are looking to build a healthier routine and spend more time caring for themselves.
The design needed to make it easy to discover a class, choose a session, track progress, and find nearby Pilates studios. I focused on three key areas:
1. Making movement approachable
Present classes with clear durations and difficulty levels so users can choose a session that suits their needs.
2. Encouraging consistent practice
Give users a simple way to view completed sessions and see their progress over time.
3. Connecting users with places to practice
Include a discovery feature where users can explore Pilates studios and find options for practising outside the home.
My Design Approach
I developed Tirzah as a mobile app concept by adapting an existing fitness app template to a Pilates and wellbeing experience.
I worked on the app's content, visual direction, screen layouts, and interface details to better reflect the concept and its intended audience.
My focus was on creating a calm, welcoming interface with clear navigation and practical features.
Visual Direction
I wanted Tirzah to feel calm, warm, and easy to use. The visual direction uses soft natural colours, gentle imagery, and simple layouts to create a welcoming atmosphere.
Colour palette
The palette combines warm cream, soft sage, deep olive, and dusty terracotta. These colours help create a natural and grounded visual identity.
Typography
I used DM Serif Display for selected headings and DM Sans for interface text. The combination gives the app a distinctive personality while keeping information readable.
Layout and imagery
I kept the layouts simple, used clear visual hierarchy, and chose imagery that reflects movement and wellbeing. Repeated interface patterns help users recognise familiar elements as they move between screens.
Final Designs
Home
The Home screen gives users a starting point for their daily practice. It highlights a featured Pilates session, offers a prompt to help users choose how they want to feel, and displays a summary of their recent activity.
The goal is to make the next step easy to find without overwhelming the user with information.
Playlist
The Playlist screen organises Pilates sessions by duration and focus. Users can explore options such as gentle mat Pilates, core and stability, full-body movement, and stretching.
Showing session lengths and focus areas helps users decide which class fits their available time and needs.
Tracking
The Tracking screen focuses on the session experience. It presents relevant activity details, such as session duration, exercises, and the selected focus area.
The aim is to keep the experience straightforward while helping users stay engaged with their practice.
Discover
The Discover screen allows users to explore Pilates studios in their area. A search field, map markers, and studio listings help bring location information together in one place.
This feature extends the concept beyond home workouts by making local practice spaces easier to explore.
Studio listings and location details in this concept are illustrative.
Progress
The Progress screen gives users a simple overview of their completed sessions and practice time. It helps them reflect on their consistency and recognise the effort they have put into their routine.
The design focuses on personal progress rather than comparison with other users.
Profile
The Profile screen brings personal details, movement preferences, reminders, and support options together in one place.
Keeping these settings organised makes the app easier to manage and supports a more personalised experience.
Reflection
Working on Tirzah gave me an opportunity to explore how visual design, content, and everyday features can work together to support a specific wellbeing concept.
Adapting a fitness app template also challenged me to think beyond changing colours and images. I had to consider how the content, screen structure, and features could better suit a Pilates experience.
If I continued developing Tirzah, I would explore user research and usability testing to understand how women experience the app, which features they find most useful, and where the interface could improve.
I would also investigate accessibility, class discovery, and how the app could support different levels of Pilates experience.
Tirzah is a concept built around the idea that caring for yourself can be part of beginning again. This project allowed me to explore that idea through a practical mobile experience.
