I created illustrations for a book. It's a collection of 21 short stories and the project was to create one illustration for each story.
After reading the stories, I had something in mind and designed the first three illustration.
I used free and open source ressources such as images from the Unsplash website. And modified these images with photoshop.
Let's take one example to see how I designed It.

On photoshop, I selected what I needed and added title and structures.

Then I used field blur. It will create a nice effect with some smart filters.

The author immediately approved the design and asked me to keep the idea of the line on each side to frame the text.
Each illustration has a direct connection to the story. An object present in the room, a symbol, a clue. I wanted that when the reader turns the page, they'd ask themselves, "Why this image?".
Now that I have the design, I just have to create one illustration for every stories.
You'll find the rest of the illustration on the book.
