I designed a this lockbox as a recreational project. After some online inspiration, I decided to make my own custom version with improvements that I saw fit. The lockbox is normally locked with six hexagonal pins (showed in gold). When the key (shown in pink) is turned, via gears, it rotates the cam disc (shown in blue). This engages the cam mechanism, retracting the 6 hexagonal pins along their rails (shown in green), and allowing the entire box mechanism (or lid) to be lifted off, revealing the cavity inside. To make the mechanism more secure, I added a magnetic mechanism which ensures that the key must be used to unlock the box, and nothing else (such as someone's fingers for example). Normally, the lever (shown in yellow) sticks up into the cam disc, seizing the mechanism, preventing it from spinning, and therefore keeping the box locked. However, the key has an embedded magnet that when contacted with the box, retracts the lever, allowing the cam disc to spin and unlock the mechanism.
