Social Media Creative Ads for a D2C Home Equity Loan Company
OVERVIEW
A Canadian D2C company that gives homeowners loans against their home equity needed fresh static ad creatives for Meta (Facebook and Instagram). I designed 12+ ad concepts in 1:1 and 9:16 and refined the best ones with the client.
THE CHALLENGE
Loan ads are a hard sell. People are careful with their money and their home, so the ad has to build trust in a second while it scrolls by. On top of that, finance ads must follow Meta's ad rules, so every creative needs a legal disclaimer that does not kill the design.
HYPOTHESES
I did not guess. I started with research and tested three main angles:
Low monthly payment: "I can afford this."
Easy approval: "I will not be rejected."
Financial relief: "This takes the stress off."
THE PROCESS
Research: went through competitors in the Facebook Ad Library and studied which ads run the longest and look the strongest.
Concepts: created 12+ different concepts around the three angles.
Brand first: started with the client's brand colors and logo, then tested other color options.
Legal: built the disclaimer into every layout so ads stay compliant with Meta rules.
Iteration: refined the winning concepts based on client feedback and test results.
DELIVERY
Final files in Figma: 1:1 for feed posts and 9:16 for Stories and Reels, ready to upload to Ads Manager.
WHAT WORKED BEST
The pillow concept was one of the strongest performers. We can't say for sure why, but here is what we think:
It sells a feeling, not a number. Most loan ads show money, houses and percentages. A pillow says comfort and calm, which is what a homeowner under financial stress wants.
It stands out in the feed. Among typical finance visuals, a soft and familiar object makes people stop scrolling.
It builds trust. A warm, human image feels safer than a cold "get a loan" message, and trust is the hardest part in finance.
It is simple. One clear image and one clear idea, so it is understood in a second.
It fits the "financial relief" angle perfectly: sleep well at night, no money stress.
This is our hypothesis, and it is what I would test first in the next round: more emotional, comfort-based visuals instead of money-based ones.
