Alaska ISP Safety Program

Richard Kennepohl

Executive Summary:
A mid-tier internet service provider in Alaska has been in operation for over 2 decades and did not have a safety or compliance program resulting in the need to create such a program to continue compliance in their industry.
Client:
Client is a mid-tier internet service provider in Alaska that has been in operation for over 20 years. They provide services to Alaskan Native organizations in rural Alaska villages requiring travel by small plane to service the customer. They own multiple antenna structures that require inspections and personnel to climb. Less than 2 years ago, they were acquired by a larger organization.
Challenge:
The client needed to develop a safety and compliance program as they have never had one. This was required to stay in compliance with Federal and State guidelines and ensure the longevity and maintenance needs of their antenna structures. They also needed a program in place to ensure the safety of the personnel who would be working on and around the structures.
Solution:
Creation of two separate programs. One a safety program and another a compliance program. The safety program allows tracking of training for personnel and maintenance needs for all equipment required to navigate on and around the owned antenna structures. This program improved overall safety for all personnel in reducing potential accidents and resulted in potential cost savings for the company as well.
The compliance program ensures conformity to Federal and State regulations. Reduces the risk of any accidents, fines, and liabilities that may result in non-compliance. And ensures the longevity of structures and equipment in use to provide services for their customers.
