Goal
Create a website for an organization/community for supporting women entrepreneurs.
Background
The organization previously used Wordpress but upkeep had become complex, so they decided to switch to Squarespace to make it simpler.
The organization, and subsequently the website needed to cater to both English and Japanese users.
Design Considerations
Colors were kept simple, using only pink, black, and white. The decision to keep the website stereotypically feminine was a purposeful decision by the company to embrace and be proud of being a minority womxn entrepreneur in a largely male-dominated business world in Japan.
Large headings made it easy to skim the website.
Accent backgrounds were used to emphasize important sections.
Images that emphasized professional women and a community of many women were important to show a sense of support and togetherness.
Features & Functionality
The site went through many iterations as the organization tested many different business models and marketing methods. Some of the features include:
Free resources such as how-to guides for registering a business in Japan
A paid membership system and separate, private membership site, which allowed members to sign up for mentoring sessions from thriving women entrepreneurs, get free access to co-working spaces, and other perks
A directory of freelancers in the organization that offered discounts to fellow members
