A survival guide when you aren’t in your dream job.

Didn’t find your dream career?
A survival guide when you aren’t in your dream job.
Sometimes you find yourself so stuck that you can’t move, at least in the direction you desire.
While sometimes you are stuck for you don’t know which is the right direction yet.
In both the cases, either you end up moving where the winds take you to, you don’t move at all.
Here, I am going to talk to you, who has moved wherever the winds have taken you to, while I am going to discuss with the ones who haven't moved at all the next week.
So firstly, I welcome you to the world where I am going to mend your soul, and soothe your heart by talking to you personally, through this weekly newsletter.
I hereby assure you, that this shall not only act as a therapy session, but also shall provide you with wisdom, using which you may take appropriate actions and alter your life for the better.
I am Priyank Mehra, a Psychology graduate, and a working professional, and of course a content creator :)
P.S: If I find a relevant song, that shall further help you to soothe your heart, I shall mention it at the end of every newsletter, for when words shall fail, music shall heal.
So, coming back to you, who might have landed in a job, or in a role, which isn’t as exciting to you, and/or isn’t your dream job, yet due to your personal/familial circumstances are forced to do it.
You have thrown yourself up in the hands of a “kind” monster, whose body is made up of uncertainty.
Honestly, I get the uncomfortable feeling that you might have in your soul.
I understand that crunchiness that you feel in your heart.
That uncomfortable, mixed emotions you emote when you are going to sleep after a relaxing Sunday evening, and when the thought of waking up the next morning to go to your office, haunts you.
Honestly, I have been in your shoes, and I have felt somewhat similar to what you feel.
Ultimately, you know the reasons for why you are doing that job.
If you do, I request you to kindly say it out loud right now, and don’t worry, if you are reading this in a public space, I don’t want people to think that you have gone mad, and therefore, just bring that reason to your consciousness.
It can be anything, such as fulfilling a financial need, or just a keen desire to learn new things.
For me, it was building discipline, learning about consumer behaviour and other key business elements, and eventually to climb to the role where I want to.
Just by being aware of such a reason you may help calm your mind down, but the next thing I am going to state is even more crucial.
* Know your purpose!
Look, if you don’t like the job, it’s simply because you don’t like it. There has to be no other reason, but if you are aware of your ultimate purpose in life, or at least your next goal, you can simply connect your job with such.
For example, in future you want to ultimately build a start-up or a business, and you are stuck in a sales role which you don’t like, just ask yourself to extract as much learning as you can from this sales job which you may apply in future when you shall be building your business.
Because ultimately, no matter who tells you, it's important to listen to your heart and follow your dreams, but hey, it's also important to be pragmatic.
But connecting your life’s purpose with your job will give you a reason to wake up from your bed enthusiastically, and be active in your job.
It shall relieve you from that crunchiness, and make you a curious person overall.
And ultimately, when you have the access, maybe within a few years or a few months, you can fly towards your dreams.
Therefore just look at this job as a temporary phase in your life, and not your whole life, and you will start living in a new dimension.
Congratulations, for once you change the story you play in your head, and do as we have discussed above, you shall experience a major shift in how you are experiencing life, and thereby shall feel more motivated.
Well this is what many theories of motivation, through rigorous experiments have concluded.
This is how true motivation works, and this is how dopamine works!
More on this in the upcoming newsletters!
While, till then I wish you luck, I know you shall excel in whatever you do, and wish to do.
I am always ears, and remember, we together, shall mend your soul, and soothe your heart.
Till then feel free to ask me questions you have.
Your ever well-wisher
