Atlas is an AI-powered travel planning platform that helps users generate personalized itineraries based on their preferences. The goal was to design a complete onboarding experience that introduces the product clearly while capturing user data needed for personalization.
The entire onboarding flow was designed end-to-end across 8 screens, from first impression to full user profiling.
Challenge
The onboarding needed to balance three core goals:
Communicate Atlas’s value instantly
Keep sign-up friction as low as possible
Collect meaningful user preferences for AI personalization
The main risk was drop-off before users reached the point where the product becomes useful.
Solution
I designed a structured onboarding experience that guides users step-by-step from discovery to personalization.
1.Hero Section
Designed a focused hero introducing Atlas as an AI travel planner, optimized for clarity and curiosity to drive entry into the onboarding flow.
2.Sign-Up Screen (with Brand-Driven Social Proof)
Created a minimal sign-up experience paired with a strong visual storytelling element.
On the right side, I designed a branded illustration featuring dynamic data cards that reinforce trust and product credibility, including:
“120+ countries covered”
“24/7 AI Travel co-pilot”
"1.2M+ Trips planned"
This section served as subtle social proof while staying visually aligned with Atlas’s identity, reinforcing value without adding friction to sign-up.
3-8.Personalized Onboarding Flow
A progressive, 6-step question flow designed to feel conversational and lightweight:
What kind of traveler are you?
How often do you travel?
What destinations interest you the most?
What's your typical travel budget?
How did you hear about Atlas?
What should we call you?
Each screen was designed with a consistent layout system, clear hierarchy, and smooth transitions to maintain engagement.
UX Approach
The onboarding was built around progressive disclosure, only one decision per screen to reduce cognitive load and keep momentum high.
The flow moves from behavioral intent → preferences → identity, ensuring the system gathers both practical and personal inputs needed for accurate AI travel recommendations.
