💖 Sapphic Teen RomCom Pitch Deck | Early 2000s Vibes
In this witty romcom, high school darling Tiffany Summers blackmails her ex’s curmudgeon sister into crossdressing as him until graduation—because nothing says "family crisis averted" like a little gender-bending deception!
What a wild ride this project has been! The script is currently diving into a DEEP revision, so this deck is a bit outdated as far as the copy goes...buttttt, the design is the same! You can check out the whole deck in a higher resolution here.
And if you want to get involved with telling this sapphic Taming of the Shrew-inspired romance, I have a Creative Call open. I send out periodical emails updating everyone on the project and asking for help--and soon I will open auditions for a Zoom table read, so if you're an actor you should like totally drop your email ;)
Ok! Enough gabbing! Here's a quick look at this wild deck:

THE PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER meets SHE'S THE MAN
The story also touches on darker themes of acceptance and suicide from the lens of a volatile high school climate. Tiffany blackmails Kate by stealing her hard drive. After some digital digging, Tiff realizes the incriminating file is not a poorly written fan fic or a pixelated video of Kate lipsyncing to country music, instead it’s a suicide letter. It’s at that moment Tiffany realizes how much Kate has been struggling. This sobering news is reminiscent of the melancholic teen movie The Perks of Being a Wallflower.
GENDER + SURVIVING HIGH SCHOOL
Sewn throughout the story is a wider discussion on gender. As Kate dives more into a male persona, she wonders if existing outside the binary is meant for her. She’s not so much confused as she’s overwhelmed by the self discovery. Tiffany becomes a guiding light during this time. She urges Kate to take it slow, high school is like hella crazy as it is. By the end of the film Kate has embarked on the road to understanding her fluidity, and with Tiff by her side, she’s optimistic.
Classic 90s and 2000s teen movies like She’s the Man brush on gender, but modern audiences are ready and willing to explore the topic in more depth. Of course the Shakespearean physical comedy of crossdressing is not lost in Tiffany’s Prom Date, instead it’s taken a step further, with both protagonists exploring their gender identity more. The gender cosplaying opens a door for exploration for the characters and the audience, refreshing these nostalgic teen romps for current consumers.
LISTEN TO THE FIRST 30 PAGES OF THE SCRIPT (kinda)
In an earlier draft of Tiffany's Prom Date I read the first 30 pages on YouTube, sound effects, wigs, and piss-poor vlogging all included. Get to know me and a bit about the cast of characters that have been haunting my mind since December. And stay tuned for more updates :)
