Maisie Yerkess

So, you’ve just landed in Tenerife. It’s time to trade in your work shoes for flip-flops and your daily grind for daily sunshine. With a wonderful place to stay checked off (if we do say so ourselves), all you need now are a few tips and tricks for a stress-free, fun-filled arrival at Violeta 14.
Transport
Once you’ve arrived at Reina Sofia Airport, otherwise known as Tenerife Sur (don’t worry, you haven’t booked the wrong flights… I hope), it’s time to make your way to Violeta 14.
Taxi
If you’re anything like us, the very second you touch down in Tenerife (otherwise known as the Isle of Love thanks to a certain Paddy McGuinness), you'll want beer in hand, food in belly, and sun on face. In no particular order, ASAP. With that in mind, the quickest and easiest way is to hop in a taxi. Directly outside the main arrivals exit of the airport is an ever-stocked taxi rank. It’s very well sign posted, so you should find your way there easily, no matter how many pre-holiday drinks you’ve had on the plane.
Ask the driver to take you to Cristian Sur, Los Cristianos. Or show him the address listed at the top if you don’t trust your Spanish. Most of the drivers know their way around the island and the popular accommodation spots, so you shouldn’t have any problems. The taxi should take around 25 minutes, and cost around 30 euros.
Car Hire
The Car Hire area is also well sign posted at the airport. In the baggage hall once you arrive there are plenty of car hire offices if you haven’t prearranged. Inter Rent, Top Car, Enterprise, Europcar, Goldcar, Hertz, Rhodium, Sixt and Thrifty are all based directly at Tenerife South Airport. Pre-booking will guarantee you a better price, and a breezier arrival. No one wants to spend the first hour of their holiday bartering for a cheap price. Save that for the lucky lucky men.
Once you arrive at the complex the apartment is situated on the top floor above the  bar/café. Walk straight past the bar/café on your left, up the stairs in-front of you, continue up and along until you can go no further. Violeta 14 is the last door you will come to. Apologies for the stairs, you will get used to them (begrudgingly).
Violeta 14
Violeta 14 is our home from home, and we want it to be yours too. All we ask is that you treat the apartment as your own too - with a little TLC.
The Nitty Gritty
The apartment will be ready for 14.00pm on the day of your arrival, unless we have discussed otherwise - feel free to check in with us for early check-in if your flight gets in at the crack of dawn. No one wants to wait around with suitcases. Beds will be made, and towels will be provided for each guest, so your only job on arrival is unpacking. Or, just keep everything in your case - whatever works for you.
Check-out time on your departure date is 10:00am unless we have arranged differently. So long as we don’t have new guests arriving the same day, we do try our best to give you some extra time in the apartment. We can’t help if you don’t ask!
The Key
Upon arrival, you can collect your key from the coded safe box beside the door - your individual code will be sent on a separate email. If you haven’t received this, please let us know. It’d possibly take you the duration of your holiday to guess it otherwise. When you leave, please pop the key back in for management to collect it.
!!! IMPORTANT !!! We’re hoping that even if you’re skimming through this and not actually reading it, that our obnoxious capitalisation and bold lettering caught your eye. Please don’t leave the apartment key in the back of the door, whether you are in or out of the apartment. If you forget that it’s there and all leave the apartment, you will be locked out. The door part way locks when shutting it and will not unlock from the outside if there is a key in the other side. We learnt the hard way.
Although the door part locks on shutting, always double lock with the key to ensure the apartment and your belongings are safe. As we said before, mi casa es su casa, my house is your house (for a short while), so as you do back at home, close all windows and lock all doors. The area itself, like most of Tenerife, is very safe and we’ve never had any problems, but it’s better to be safe than sorry.
For any passports or important things, you will find a safe situated in the cupboard upstairs in the twin room, please follow the instructions. And please, don’t forget your passports.
Entertainment
Even on holiday, no matter how much the sun is shining, it can be hard to pull the kids away from their devices. So, Violeta 14 offers excellent 100Mb wifi. The password is underneath the router, besides the TV. Apologies in advance for the length of it. The TV has a connected device that shows all major European TV channels and movies. For evenings in, the Xbox has a selection of games, as well as Netflix installed.
The complex has 2 pools to pick from, with one in direct view of the apartment balcony. The sun also sticks around for longer at this pool. If you’ve snuck off for some winter sun in the cooler months, you may want to head to the other pool within the complex as that one is heated. The unheated one may be a little chilly for the faint hearted!
TLC Tips aka. The ‘very loose rules’
Smoking. Violeta 14 has a strict no smoking policy inside, however feel free to use the balconies and rooftop. You will find ashtrays under the sink.
Stain prevention. Suntan lotions, albeit wonderful for your skin, are not wonderful for upholstery. Any lotions with tint in them will stain upholstery, throws and towels permanently. Kindly, take a little care when using settees, chairs and beds.
Waste. To prevent infestations of cockroaches and other pests please empty your bins regularly. You will find the bins (Basura), marked on the map, on the street outside the complex. If you can’t find the map just ask.
On the day of your departure please ensure all bins and rubbish are removed from the apartment and taken to the Basura. Including in the fridge and freezer. We don’t expect a spotless house to be left (we’ve had children on holiday), but removing all the rubbish is essential.
Complex rules. The main rule is an expected ‘quiet time’ past 12 midnight. If you’re quite ready to finish the party, Veronica’s strip will take you. The party quite literally never stops there.
Supermarket
You will find 2 mini-marts on the complex. As you come down the stairs from the apartment, the smaller shop to your left has great sandwiches for 3 euros and basic produce. The shop to the right has a bigger selection of food and drinks. For a ‘big shop’, as we’d call it, there is a supermarket in the Passarela Oasis Centre, a 5-10 minute walk away.
Across the road from the complex is a mini-market which is open 24-hours.
Last but not least…
We hope you have a wonderful holiday, and you love Violeta 14 as much as we do.
If that’s the case, and you would like to stay with us again please do not hesitate to contact us. If you don’t, and there’s something we could have done better, please contact us too.
