Why Your ‘Why’ Matters: Supercharging Your Success in 2024!

There is no greater force than having a good reason Why to reinforce what needs to be done to manifest your aspirations in reality. You cannot create a successful strategic plan when you don’t know Why that plan is important. Why are your dreams, aspirations and goals tectonic to you? What difference does it make, and Why is closing the gap between who you are now and who you desire to be so important? Why must it be done in 2024?

Now that the year’s activities are picking up pace, the euphoria of the new year is starting to wear off. In all honesty, the resolutions are slowly waning and you’ve already begun to lose the “ginger” to aspire for more!

Fear not, Becks is here with a motivational “word” to nudge you to keep pushing… Just imagine me singing Hold On (Change Is Comin’) to you right now for some inspiration! Keep on keeping on!

I am hoping that as you’re reading this, you’ve already gone through Gap Analysis: Your Cheat Sheet To A Productive 2024, made an effort to follow the steps, assess what needs to be done to bridge the gap between where you are in life right now and where you desire to be.

Without a mentally fortified conviction on why your goals are paramount this year, there are so many distractions and challenges on the path to success that will get you sidetracked.

I firmly believe that ‘Why?‘ is the cornerstone of every successful goal strategy. A compelling ‘Why‘ fuels motivation, propelling you to achieve and create more. It’s the compass guiding you to your best self.

Here’s a compelling analogy: When I consider the importance of Why, I envision it as the vehicle transporting my businesses to what ne plus ultra means to me. Would I settle for my entire business “load” to be conveyed on a slow Yamaha bike with no room for growth, leading to burnout and an inevitable crash? Or would I opt for my entire business “cargo” to be airlifted by a steady-growing, speedy Airbus A380 with structured systems and a reduced likelihood of failure on the way to my desired destination? The answer seems obvious, but the foundation to that answer comes from Why I’m making certain choices, the long term benefits to me and the challenges I may encounter along the way. All of these would then influence the How and the When I will do what I need to do. If you don’t get my analogy, isss okay, but I was so proud of myself when I thought of it and decided to share.

In customer service, empathy and friendliness is not a practice just because businesses want their clients to feel heard and special but because they have reasons Why, which could be that they want their brands to reflect excellence. Why? Because they want those customers to stay loyal and because they want to attract more customers. Why? Because they want to make a profit in those businesses and stay relevant.

I don’t want to ramble on about what makes “Why?” important without sharing a guide on how you could come up with substantive reasons Why you should stay driven this year. These reasons Why are what will keep you grounded, fuel your drive to keep pushing, especially if you live in Nigeria where challenges, distractions and everything in between are on steroids right now.

Get a notepad, give yourself at least 30 minutes to reflect on the things you need to do to get where you want to be and write down the answers to the following questions.

Ask yourself…

Clarify the underlying motivation behind your goal to understand its significance in your life.

Explore the personal impact of your goal, connecting it to your values and aspirations on yourself and the people that matter most to you.

Reflect on your strengths, skills and past successes to build confidence in your abilities.

Consider how your current efforts contribute to your broader life vision and purpose.

Identify the deeper reasons for facing challenges, recognizing the growth and learning opportunities they present.

Asking these Why questions can provide clarity, motivation, and a deeper understanding of your self-development journey. They guide you to uncover the meaningful aspects of your goals and help you stay focused on your path. Moving forward, I want you to be deliberate about the trajectory of your life. This includes being strategic, being time sensitive, project driven and always prepared to leverage opportunities. When you have a strong conviction why you need to evolve and do better, it shields you from getting derailed by whatever life throws at you.

Let me summarize by using myself as an example. Here are the “Why’s” that shape the messaging behind my articles.

Why do I do this? Because I want to encourage you to be intentional with your life and decision making.

Why? Because I want you to be the best version of yourself!

Why? Because I believe strongly that my purpose is tied to influencing your perception on the richness your life can have, if only you look at your circumstances from the lens of positivity and an abundance mindset which will fuel you to strive for more.

My mantra for 2024: Look back, live today, open up to tomorrow.
