​New Constellations was a 64-page book mailed to a national audience of pediatric specialists. The book tells the story of Children's Hospital Colorado's research and innovation. I composed the theme of constellations with our copywriter, Jef Otte, as a symbol of connecting across disciplines, campuses, and laboratories to bring about incredible innovations. The design, while still fitting into the Children's Colorado brand, is more sophisticated and simple than pieces intended for a parent audience. The audience for New Constellations is premiere, best-in-class clinicians, surgeons, and researchers so the design must appeal to their sensibilities. I was fortunate to art direct all the photoshoots creating a cohesive style that integrated with the layout design and illustrations.

I worked in collaboration with photographer, Scott Dressel Martin and creative coordinator, Kiaja Thomas, who facilitated and scheduled all the shoots to produce beautiful, cohesive photography for New Constellations. My art direction included detailed briefs prior to the shoot and real-time direction to Scott and the subjects as I reviewed the photos on an iPad. The shoots took place in laboratories on the Anschutz Medical Campus, clinical spaces at Children's Hospital Colorado, and even one patient's home in Winter Park.
