PayMakers is a SaaS payment platform built specifically for artisans — independent makers, craftspeople, and creative professionals who need a fast, simple, and trustworthy way to get paid for their work. Unlike generic payment processors designed for large businesses, PayMakers is built around the workflow of a sole creator: raising invoices, accepting payments from multiple channels, and tracking earnings — all without needing an accountant. My role was to design the full product UI — from the onboarding flow and payment dashboard to the invoice builder and transaction history. The brief was to make something that felt as crafted as the work of the artisans using it.

[the problem]

Most payment tools are built for businesses — they assume accounting knowledge, complex workflows, and a team. Artisans have none of that. They need to raise an invoice in seconds, share it instantly, accept payment by any method, and see their money arrive without confusion. Existing tools either overwhelmed them with features or locked key functionality behind enterprise pricing tiers. PayMakers needed to be powerful enough for real business use — and simple enough that a ceramicist, tailor, or woodworker would use it without training.

PayMakers launched with a product UI that finally matched the simplicity its users needed. The onboarding flow was designed to reach first payment in under five minutes. The invoice builder reduced a typically multi-step process to a single screen with smart defaults. The dashboard gave artisans a clear, real-time picture of their earnings without requiring financial literacy to read it. The product demonstrated that fintech design doesn't have to be cold, corporate, or complex — it can be as considered and human as the craft of the people it serves.
