Metacognition - The awareness and understanding of your thought processes, including the ability to monitor, control, and regulate your cognitive activities, such as thinking, learning, and problem-solving.
Metacognition is like a superpower that lets you understand why you react the way you do and then choose a better response.
Five ways to apply:
1] Notice Your Thoughts and Feelings: Notice what thoughts you have and how they make you feel.
2] Question Your Thoughts: When you notice negative or unhelpful thoughts, ask yourself why you thinking that way. Challenge those thoughts and see if there is a different, more positive perspective.
3] Choose Your Response: Instead of reacting automatically to your thoughts and feelings, pause for a moment. Think about how you want to respond in a way that matches your values and goals.
4] Practice Meditation: Meditate for 10+ minutes to help you become more aware of your thoughts and feelings in the present moment.
5] Reflect and Adjust: At the end of each day, take a few minutes to think back on how you handled different situations. Were there times when your emotions got the best of you? What could you do differently next time?
By applying metacognition every day, you gain greater control over your thoughts and feelings.
