Boosted Boards

In summer of 2017, I was tasked with redesigning the current version of Boosted’s iOS App and then translating the new designs to Android. The designs included preparing for very important firmware updates from the app to scooter.

We clicked with the Boosted team quickly. The team, based in Mountain View and San Francisco, gave me their full trust, so we only had 30 - 45 min checks once a week. Most of the feedback was shared online, so we were able to iterate quickly despite the 9 timezones difference.

I knew the app will mostly be used outdoors, sometimes while commuting, so I wanted the main tiles to be big enough to be easily accessible.

 

On the other hand, I didn't want users to use the app while riding. With the introduction of the ride tracking feature, I decided to go with dark UI to make it harder to see outdoors and discourage these brave rule breakers from using the app while riding.

The next update of the app came with the announcement of the Boosted Rev - Boosted's high end electric scooter. For that, I had to update the app so you could connect to more than one device, assuming the user may own Boosted Board or/and Boosted Rev.

Looking back, this was for sure one of my favorite projects. I think the team have accomplished really clean yet functional design that users accepted very well.

 

The overall communication with the Boosted team was awesome. We even met in San Francisco which was a nice extra perk in our already sweet cooperation.
