GAIN Co-Innovation: A Data-Driven Approach to Global Social Impact
The GAIN Co-Innovation Platform was a high-stakes initiative to bridge the gap between global resource providers and local innovators. As a core member of the winning project team at Proportion Global, I served as the Lead UI Designer for the Global Project and the Lead UX Designer/Researcher for the Nigeria team. My objective was to move past "assumptive design" and build a platform rooted in verified user behavior and regional technical realities.
Role: Global Lead UI Architect / Lead UX Researcher (Nigeria)
The primary hurdle was creating a platform that could scale across diverse technical environments (low-bandwidth areas vs. high-speed corporate offices) without losing its premium, trustworthy feel.
Validating Assumptions: We needed to prove that the proposed features actually solved local bottlenecks for Nigerian innovators.
Cross-Continental Alignment: Synchronizing the needs of global institutional stakeholders with the ground-level reality of local entrepreneurs.
Complex Data Orchestration: Visualizing multi-stage innovation funnels and shared resource libraries in a way that felt intuitive, not academic.
The Solution: A Rigorous Design Process
I implemented a Full-Cycle Design Process, moving from deep-dive discovery to high-fidelity systems architecture.
Phase 1: Full-Scale User Research (UR)
Before a single pixel was moved, I led an intensive research phase for the Nigeria team.
In-Depth Interviews (IDIs): Conducted qualitative sessions with local stakeholders to map their "path to innovation."
User Persona Development: Created data-backed personas that accounted for regional nuances in digital literacy and hardware constraints.
User Journey Mapping: Documented the "Chaos to Connection" journey to identify high-friction touchpoints in existing collaboration methods.
Phase 2: UX Architecture & Prototyping
Using the research data, I architected the Global-Local UX Framework.
Low-Fidelity Logic: Wireframed the core interaction loops to ensure the "Co-Innovation" workflow was bulletproof before adding visual layers.
Usability Testing: Ran iterative testing cycles to validate the information hierarchy, ensuring that users in any region could navigate the platform with zero cognitive load.
Phase 3: High-Fidelity UI & Systems Engineering
Engineered Luxury Aesthetic: As the Global UI Lead, I developed a high-contrast, professional-grade visual system that established GAIN as a premier global entity.
Figma Design System: Built a comprehensive, responsive component library to ensure seamless developer handover and 100% fidelity across all breakpoints.
The Impact: Evidence-Based Innovation
By grounding the design in Full-Scale User Research, we delivered a platform that doesn't just look elite it functions with precision. The GAIN Co-Innovation platform now serves as a robust infrastructure for global progress, proving that a rigorous, research-first process is the only way to build for true social impact.
