Hole Taboo: Normalizing Periods through Design

Periods aren’t shameful — they’re natural, and essential.

The menstrual cycle is often surrounded by taboos, shaped by tradition and misinformation. At Switch Design, we believe design has the power to challenge these narratives.
In this project we aim to normalize periods and highlight the role of honest communication in branding.   Most ads promise a pain-free experience — we chose honesty. This product doesn’t erase discomfort; it simply helps manage it.

It’s not a miracle. It’s a tool. And that’s enough.

Hole Taboo is a passion project by Switch Design.

Menstruation is surrounded by many taboos, and their influence can be so damaging that girls and women often start feeling ashamed of their bodies.
Taboos become loud while facts are reduced to whispers. To break this cycle, we decided to share our perspective on the industry.
Our pads are available in three variants: Heavy Flow, Very Heavy Flow, and Panty Liners.

Visual Identity

For this visual identity, we’ve drawn inspiration from the red blood cell pattern, incorporating a symbolic representation of the labia to indicate menstruation. At the heart of the design is the affirmation “You are whole”—a reminder of strength and completeness.
Our goal is to help women feel confident and empowered. So, when she tears open the pad, instead of feeling disheartened by her period, she can appreciate the incredible beauty and resilience of the female body.

To maintain cohesiveness in the visual identity, we showcases photographs of women embracing their bodies and viewing menstruation as a normal, natural part of womanhood.

Color Scheme & Typography

We intentionally selected bold, vibrant colors—blue, red, and yellow—to capture attention and spark conversation around menstruation.
To amplify our message and make a strong visual statement, we paired Nineties Display as our primary typeface with modern sans-serif fonts as supporting elements, creating a balance of personality and clarity.
Here we have showcase different packaging under Gif
