INTRODUCTION

During my 12 years in the drug testing industry, I have answered customer service calls from across Accessioned and processed specimens.
Trained customer service representatives, leaders, and sales representatives.
I managed over 10 million dollars’ worth of drug testing business.
And I worked with the leading scientists and leaders in the industry.
What I came to realize is that most people - HR personnel, probation and parole officers and others involved in the industry - do not know the ins and outs of drug testing.
I have spoken to a lot of people who have spent many sleepless nights worrying about a drug test they have to take at work. These are not always regular drug users. They are regular folks – police officers, managers, people with jobs that make six figures.
Often, it is because they took a supplement that they are worried will show up on a drug test.
Often, their livelihoods hang in the balance.
Some have lost their jobs.
Once, I spoke to a lady who had relocated her whole family for a new job offer, only to fail the drug test and loose the opportunity. She was devastated.
You hear it in the news every day.
An athlete fails a drug test and loses millions of dollars in income because of it.
I have spoken to people who did not know that their mouthwash would give them a positive result for alcohol! People have lost their family, had children taken away, lost in a divorce and had their marriages torn apart because of it.
I spoke to a police officer once who was losing his job because he did not know that a workout drink he was taking, would make him test positive for Steroids.
A lot of times, the people Administering the test do not know what they are testing for and at what levels. They rely on the drug testing company they are using to provide them with the correct information.
I have talked to rehab centers that wonder why people are not testing positive for drugs that they know are being provided to them.
This is because the facility was not testing for the right drugs.
Mothers call crying because their children are being taken away, only to find out the wrong test was ordered.
People in awesome jobs call me frustrated because they did not know that a seemingly innocent drink they were drinking or food they ate would give them a positive result.
Then there is the plethora of detox remedies, drinks and pills that promise to clean out your system and get you a negative result.
There is endless advice on diluting your specimen, using someone else’s urine and other weird recipes that may or may not work. How do you know what works and what does not?
There are the endless federal and state laws that a lot of businesses do not know they have to comply with.
I have seen many companies sued because they did not follow State regulations and fired someone for a test, they should not have been performing in the first place.
For example, were you aware that you cannot perform a random drug test in the State of California? Or that the State of Hawaii does not allow instant drug testing?
I am hoping that by explaining the process, HR representatives can get information
