3D Epoxy-Like Landscape

Overview

This 3D model was sculpted to create smooth, flowing shapes, then finished with materials that give it an epoxy like. A glass material adds shine and reflections, while a depth material boosts contrast in the dark areas. Together, they create a glossy, resin-style surface that feels similar to poured epoxy art.

Goal of the Project

To create a sculpted 3D form that captures the glossy, fluid appearance of poured epoxy by combining organic shapes with glass and depth materials.

Process

Modeling: The shape was sculpted by hand on Spline, forming soft waves, ridges, and curves similar to how liquid resin settles. The form rises on one side and drops on the other, giving it a natural, uneven flow.

Animation: A rotation was added so the piece can be viewed from all angles. The movement helps show how the light catches the glossy surface.
Materials: A glass material was used to give shine and reflections. A depth material was added to darken the lower areas and highlight the thickness of the form. Together, they give the object an epoxy like finish.

Result
The final outcome is a smooth and glossy 3D sculpture that strongly reflects the look of real epoxy art. The surface has a clean shine, and the translucent material creates subtle highlights and shadows that shift as the piece rotates. The depth material adds darker areas inside the form, giving it a sense of thickness and making the curves feel more pronounced. As it turns, the reflections slide across the surface, revealing the waves, ridges, and overall flow of the sculpted shape.
