Objective:

As the Director of Photography for the second episode of #50BestTalks meets Essence of Asia, I was excited to capture the essence of Manila’s refined food scene through the lens of Margarita Forés, Asia’s Best Female Chef of 2016. Our focus was on Earth Kitchen and Hapag, two standout restaurants featured in the Essence of Asia collection.

Challenges:

Tight Timeline: With just one day to shoot across two different cities within Metro Manila, managing time effectively was crucial.

Approach:

Efficient Planning: I worked closely with the production team to meticulously plan our schedule. Every minute was accounted for to ensure we could shoot all necessary footage without compromising on quality.

Cinematic Techniques: Employed creative camera movements and lighting to highlight the sophisticated atmosphere of both restaurants and showcase their exquisite dishes.

Time Management: With our one-day schedule, I made sure each shot was carefully planned and executed efficiently, balancing the need for quality visuals with the constraints of our timeline.

Results:

The episode successfully highlighted Manila’s refined culinary scene and the distinctive qualities of Earth Kitchen and Hapag. The efficient use of time and attention to visual detail led to a compelling and engaging narrative that resonated with viewers on 50 Best Restaurants TV’s YouTube channel. Despite the tight schedule, the project was a rewarding experience that demonstrated the impact of careful planning and efficient execution.
