Premium Leather Travel Duffel Bag

Product Design & Development

A premium travel duffel designed around a balance of functionality, refined proportions, comfortable carrying, and timeless visual appeal. The design combines a structured body with soft leather surfaces, integrated carrying handles, an adjustable shoulder strap, premium hardware, and practical zippered access.
The objective was to create a travel product that feels sophisticated and durable while remaining practical for everyday use and short trips.
My Role: Product Designer Services: Product Design, Concept Development, 3D CAD, Material Development, Product Visualization

01 — Product Concept & Design Direction

The process began by defining the overall design language and functional requirements of the travel bag.
I focused on creating a silhouette that would provide enough internal volume without making the product appear oversized. The initial direction explored the relationship between the main body, carrying handles, shoulder strap, and structural leather elements.
The design language was intentionally kept minimal, premium, and timeless, allowing the quality of the materials and proportions to define the product rather than relying on unnecessary details.
Key considerations:
Overall proportions and carrying capacity
Hand and shoulder carrying options
Premium visual identity
Accessible main compartment
Practical and recognizable silhouette

02 — Form & Proportion Development

Once the initial direction was established, I developed the primary form of the bag.
The body geometry was refined around a soft, structured volume with rounded transitions at the ends. I explored the relationship between the length, height, width, and curvature to achieve a balanced silhouette from multiple viewing angles.
The handle position, shoulder strap attachment points, and longitudinal reinforcement straps were also considered during this stage so they would feel integrated into the main form.
Goal: Create a strong silhouette that feels spacious, refined, and comfortable to carry.

03 — Design Detail Development

With the primary form established, I moved into the details that give the product its character.
I refined the handles, leather reinforcement straps, zipper system, buckles, rings, strap connections, and side construction to ensure that each component contributed to the overall design language.
Particular attention was given to alignment and proportion so that the hardware and leather components felt intentional rather than visually added onto the bag.
This stage helped transform the basic form into a more complete and recognizable product.

04 — 3D CAD Development

The refined concept was then translated into a detailed 3D CAD model.
I developed the main body and supporting components while maintaining the proportions established during the industrial design stage. CAD development allowed me to evaluate the design from different angles and refine the relationships between the individual components.
The model was developed with consideration for:
Component separation
Surface transitions
Hardware positioning
Strap interfaces
Zipper placement
Overall assembly relationships
This ensured the design remained consistent as it moved from concept into a more developed product definition.

05 — Component & Assembly Development

The product was then considered as a complete assembly rather than simply an exterior form.
I separated the major components and refined how the main body, handles, shoulder strap, reinforcement straps, zipper system, and hardware interact with one another.
This stage helped establish a logical relationship between the visible components while ensuring that the product maintained a clean appearance when assembled.
The focus was on creating a product that feels cohesive from every angle, with functional elements integrated naturally into the overall form.

06 — Material & Finish Development

Material and finish development was used to establish the premium character of the final product.
I explored a deep brown leather finish with subtle surface texture, complemented by darker leather components and polished gold-tone hardware.
The contrast between the warm leather and metallic hardware creates a refined visual hierarchy while maintaining the understated character of the design.
Attention was given to:
Leather texture
Surface finish
Edge treatment
Hardware finish
Strap material
Zipper detailing
The final combination gives the product a sophisticated and timeless appearance.

07 — Final Product Visualization

The final stage was focused on presenting the completed design through realistic product visualization.
I developed photorealistic studio and lifestyle imagery to communicate the product's form, material quality, proportions, and intended premium positioning.
The visualization process focused on realistic leather texture, natural reflections, controlled lighting, hardware highlights, and an environment that supports the product's luxury travel aesthetic.
The final result is a refined leather travel duffel that combines practical functionality, considered ergonomics, premium materials, and a strong visual identity.
