BRAINSTORMING

In our project's initial phase, we collaborated to explore our collective interests and perspectives on wellness. Delving into its various facets within the market and its overarching impact, we initiated our research with a comprehensive brainstorming session. It became apparent that each team member possessed a distinct array of wellness apps, each tailored to specific objectives and characteristics. Moving forward to the secondary research, a noteworthy revelation emerged through it; a substantial 75% of users were women, with a subsequent 40% deviation from the conventional user base. Amidst considerations oscillating between fitness and spirituality, a pivotal question surfaced: why segregate these two essential dimensions of wellness when they could coexist harmoniously on a unified platform?

COMPETITOR ANALYSIS

Our focus shifted to a meticulous analysis of key competitors: My Fitness Pal, Lifesum, Asana Rebel, Sweat, and Apple Health. We scrutinized features, products, and overall services on both iOS and Android platforms. This groundwork laid the foundation for our subsequent quantitative research, providing a structured basis.

QUANTITATIVE RESEARCH AND SURVEY

A targeted survey was crafted to distil insights into user behaviours and needs within the expansive wellness app landscape. Intriguingly, the survey unveiled compelling data: 8–10 contributors followed a vegetarian diet, while over 80% did not adhere to any diet or healthy tips. Notably, 70% expressed enthusiasm at the prospect of amalgamating data from their various health, fitness, and wellness apps into a single, cohesive platform. As we further dissected participant responses, preferences for app usage emerged, with 53% downloading for fitness improvement, 30% for mental health enhancement, 34% for training purposes, and 43.5% for progress tracking. An overwhelming 76.2% sought online health and wellness information before seeking professional advice.

Obstacles and Paint Points

Despite the evident interest, obstacles loomed large. Nearly 50% were hesitant to pay for such an app, yet a significant 60% expressed interest in consolidating features. Pain points included work commitments (66%), lack of motivation (56%), and training schedule challenges (40%).

QUALITATIVE RESEARCH/USER INTERVIEWS

After conducting user interviews, we gained insights into our users’ motivations and goals. Their primary aspirations revolved around improving their fitness, tracking their progress, and having access to personalized training programs. Our users expressed a desire for features such as equipment integration, professional validation, short programs with adjustable speed, online advice, device connectivity, community, and rewards.

Obstacles and Paint Points Revisited

Qualitative research revealed that manual data updates, lack of progress visibility, and time constraints were chief reasons for app abandonment. Users emphasized pain points such as:
Fees,
Fast-paced videos,
Solitude, the absence of rewards,
And progress tracking.
Their candid feedback echoed sentiments on payment, personalized program costs, and a preference for credibility in wellness advice.

Through our Q&Q Research, we were able to spotlight our primary user, tailoring our approach based on their demographic details and behavioural insights:

‘’Busy health-conscious individuals need to find a way to manage their overall well-being in accordance to all of their health circumstances because they are currently struggling to keep up.’’

FEATURE PRIORITIZATION: MoSCoW METHOD

This meticulous prioritization, inspired by the MoSCoW method, ensures a user-centric approach with essential features at the forefront, followed by impactful enhancements and exciting possibilities for a comprehensive wellness platform.

Onboarding Excellence: Seamless onboarding process guiding users to their best-fitting wellness plan.
Holistic Data Integration: Live data integration from all apps and devices.
AI-Generated Personalized Plans: Cutting-edge AI crafting personalized plans based on user data.
Comprehensive Profile Page: A dynamic profile showcasing achievements and progress on a yearly/monthly basis.
Professional Check-In: Monthly 1:1 check-ins with a wellness professional for personalized insights.
Professional Plan Revision: Users can have their account/plan revised by a professional for a fee.
Free Version with AI Features: Offering a free version embedded with AI functionalities.
Tailored Recipe Suggestions: AI-generated recipe suggestions tailored to individual needs.

Progress Notification Calendar: Calendar functionality linked to notify and remind users of their wellness progression.
AI Schedule Syncing: The calendar function syncs seamlessly with the user’s schedule generated by AI.
Location Synced Map Page: A map page synchronized with the user’s location for enhanced planning.
Chatbot Diet Consultation: An interactive avatar/chatbot providing diet advice and answering queries.
Motivational Group Feature: Warrior/Buddy Group features fostering motivation and mutual support.
Results and Challenges Sharing: Users can share results and challenges within their chosen group.
Gamified Reward System: Introducing a reward system and gamified ranking for user engagement.
Program Customization at Levels: Customization options at Levels 1–2, encourage users to level up their programs.

Could-have:

AI-Generated Workout Feedback: AI-generated feedback on workouts, coupled with positive affirmations.
Text-to-Audio Conversion: Option for users to convert text into audio for a versatile user experience.
Community Event Discovery: Feature for finding community events, from baths to marathons, yoga retreats, and fitness circles.
Integrated Shopping List and Diet: A cohesive system merging a store shopping list with personalized diet recommendations, including item scanning and alerts for items not on the list but fitting the diet.

USER TESTING/ITERATION

MOODBOARD

As we delved into conceptualizing the essence of ‘Healp,’ we embarked on a journey exploring three distinctive directions, each resonating with the overarching theme of wellness. Our decision favoured a vibrant, illustrated, and digital approach over natural photos and pastel colours, leading to a dynamic visual identity. In crafting our colour palette, we innovatively fused elements from each direction, culminating in a fresh and harmonious blend.

STYLE TILE

The culmination of our exploration is encapsulated in our style tile, a seamless amalgamation of primarily 3D elements with nuanced 2D components. Noteworthy are the realistic icons, aligned with semantic colours, coexisting with flat vectors in our brand colour — the vibrant and compelling vivid purple. The choice of Nunito Sans as our typeface imparts a minimalistic and industrial aesthetic. At the same time, the AI Buddy, a friendly and realistic ginger-haired avatar, serves as the welcoming face of our brand.

HI-FIDELITY

As we transition into the high-fidelity phase, our focus has been on creating a prototype that harmoniously integrates all components. Witness the evolution of the AI Buddy chat room screen, where every stage reflects meticulous development and collective creativity. The prototype showcases ‘Healp’ as a warm and inviting platform, with our protagonist guiding users seamlessly through onboarding.
