I used the design thinking process to create a solution that focuses on the user. This process has four steps: research, design, test, and deliver. I used design thinking because it helps me to understand the user's needs, reduce the risk of product failure, and help the organization achieve its goals.

Research: The first step is to research the user and the problem. This involves understanding the user's needs, pain points, and goals. It also involves understanding the context in which the user will be using the product or service.

Design: The second step is to design a solution that meets the user's needs. This involves brainstorming ideas, sketching prototypes, and testing different solutions.

Test: The third step is to test the solution with users. This involves getting feedback on the solution and making changes as needed.

Deliver: The fourth step is to deliver the solution to the user. This involves launching the product or service and providing support to the user.

The current UDUS Student MIS site exhibits several issues that hinder its usability and user satisfaction. I conducted research interviews with our primary users (Students) to uncover any pain points that they were experiencing with the MIS site.‍ My research encompassed:

-If they are provided with an alternative site will they stick to the current design of UDUS MIS student portal?

Based on the responses received, I formulated questions for an online survey that was answered by 34 people (students) within two day – of course this survey is not representative, but it gives us the major challenges that are being faced by students.

users complained of not finding or difficulty finding what they want to do (task where difficult to performed), based on the insights gained from the initial content audits and Card Sorts with the users, I defined a new information architecture for UDUS Student MIS site and then evaluated it via tree tests with the users.

With low-fidelity paper wireframes, I could easily test the planned syllabus and the general structure of the application in usability tests. Without much effort, I could make adjustments before going into the much more costly digital implementation.

To quantitatively assess the usability assumptions, I conducted A/B and click tests. The results confirmed the majority of my assumptions, with only a few minor details that required attention. The primary focus of the tests was on evaluating the navigation structure, the visibility of call-to-action (CTA) buttons, the wording of certain actions, and user preferences regarding the high fidelity design.

I believe that the UX redesign of the Usmanu Danfodio University Sokoto (UDUS) Student MIS site is a crucial step toward enhancing user experience, improving usability, and meeting the diverse needs of students within the university. I am confident that by addressing the issues that the current site faces through a user-centered design approach, incorporating modern design principles, and streamlining workflows, the redesigned site can significantly enhance the overall user experience.

I am particularly excited about the potential of the redesigned site to improve the accessibility of information and resources for all students, including those with disabilities. I believe that by adhering to accessibility standards and integrating feedback mechanisms and support channels, the redesigned site can create an inclusive and equitable learning environment for all students.

I am committed to working with the UDUS web team to ensure that the UX redesign of the Student MIS site is a success. I believe that by working together, we can create a platform that meets the needs of all students and helps them to succeed in their academic endeavors.

Through this project, I have learned valuable lessons that I can apply to future endeavors:

User-Centered Design: I now understand the importance of prioritizing user needs and preferences. By conducting research, gathering feedback, and involving users in the design process, I can create a successful user experience that aligns with their expectations.

Usability and Navigation: I have recognized the significance of clear and intuitive navigation. Simplifying navigation and organizing information logically will greatly enhance usability and user satisfaction.

Responsive Design: I now appreciate the importance of optimizing the user experience for different devices. By incorporating responsive design techniques, I can ensure a seamless experience across various platforms and screen sizes.

Information Hierarchy and Organization: I have learned the value of effective information organization. By employing a clear hierarchy, utilizing visual cues, and presenting information in a scannable format, I can help users quickly find relevant information.

Continuous Improvement: I understand that the UX redesign process is ongoing. Regularly seeking feedback, analyzing user behavior, and adapting to evolving needs and technology will allow me to continuously improve the user experience.

By applying these learnings to future projects, I am confident in my ability to create user-centered experiences that meet user needs, enhance usability, and drive user satisfaction.
