Introduction
A couple of months ago, I had the opportunity to design an eSports gaming application, which I documented my design process for two months ago. As both a gamer and a designer, this project felt like a perfect fit for me. I undertook this project as a solo designer, handling all aspects from conducting user research and competitor analysis to UX trials for various wireframes, UI design, and final testing. The main goal of the project was to create a platform where gamers could compete in popular console games like Call of Duty, Counter-Strike, Fortnite, FIFA, etc., through tournament battles, 1-to-1 matchmaking, or daily challenges to win enticing rewards such as cash and points.
Design Duration
This design took me one month to complete. I dedicated significant time to iterating and refining the experience and interface design.
Research
Since this was my first foray into designing an eSports gaming app, I conducted thorough research on competitors to identify what resonated well with users and what didn't. I brainstormed extensively on aspects like color themes, typography, icons, and game UI before beginning my design work.
User Persona
My target audience comprises students, youths, and adults.
What makes it interesting/complex?
In terms of what makes it interesting, I utilized bright colors against a dark theme with a rich UI to appeal to the target audience. I focused on making the user profile as user-friendly as possible. The most complex aspect was creating an online live players bracket for matches held between individuals or groups. For this, I referenced a popular website, Challenge.
