The ongoing notion of relating biology with technology excels in the future of worldwide betterment and, therefore will be for society, to society and made by the community. Biotechnology is covering gaps, exceeding limits once defined as difficult to achieve and it has become a significant pioneer in the field of health. Hence, the development and research of global health services have led to an enhancement of worldwide factors leading to secure public health.
And as Steve Jobs said,” I think the most significant innovations of the 21st century will be at the intersection of biology and technology. A new era is beginning” I mean who would have thought that it was biotechnology that a thousand years ago produced beer, wine and bread? Now the technology has grown immensely, and it is responsible for developing innovative technology for the industrial production of antibiotics, hormones, energy sources, and food products. And how can we forget biotech firms – big and small – are making leaps and bounds in medical industry areas like proteomics, genomics, and drug development which all are a part of our health sector?
Therefore biotechnological growth has boomed in the past few years and has a great scope in future as well.
Biotechnology is a vast subject including knowledge and practice, hence here we are dealing with the much smaller arena that is global health. An approach involving the development of several innovative techniques for diagnosing, treating and preventing diseases is considered biotechnology under medicine.
The history of the field speaks for itself from creating the first synthetic antibiotic in the late 1950s to the development of vaccines for the COVID-19 pandemic which took the domain responsible for upholding further medicinal approaches as well. Global health is considered improvised health for all: the goal of improving health for all people in all nations by promoting wellness and eliminating avoidable disease, disability, and death.
Considering biotechnology, many researchers are working and have even worked to fulfil the commitment to global health.
Alzheimer’s disease (AD) a neurodegenerative disorder is declared a “global public health priority” by WHO because there is no permanent remedy for it. Stem cell therapy and nanoparticles hold great promise for studying, diagnosing, and treating neurodegenerative disorders. A rising amount of pre-clinical studies have recommended that the transfer of neural stem cells (NSCs) can pose a potential new treatment for neurodegenerative disorders.
Cancer which is is responsible for millions of deaths worldwide and, even though much progress has been achieved in medicine, there are still many issues that must be addressed to improve cancer therapy be the gene therapy and the expression of genes triggering apoptosis and wild-type tumour suppressors, or the targeted silencing mediated by siRNAs, is currently under evaluation in many clinical trials worldwide.
Thermal ablation of tumours and magnetic hyperthermia are opening new opportunities for precision medicine, making the treatment localised in very narrow and precise areas.
The successes of antiretroviral therapy have reduced HIV to a chronic condition in many parts of the world as progression to AIDS has become rare. Studies have found that the 3-drug regimen has led to a 60% to 80% decline in rates of AIDs, hospitalization, and death. Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) and Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP): PrEP involves taking antiretroviral medication before potential exposure to HIV to reduce the risk of infection. Hence there are more spheres from which HIV treatment and prevention are taking place.
There on the contrary there are recent developments in the global sector of biotechnology but still, there are many areas of improvisation and biotechnological space will only grow and boom in the past years taking the ongoing research into consideration.
