My name is Fhumulani (aka Fumz), and I’m super obsessed with letterforms and expressive typography.

This piece has been a passion project I’ve revisited over many iterations. It’s inspired by one of Michael Jordan’s most powerful quotes — a reminder that greatness isn’t just about talent, but about decisive action and unwavering intent.

The centrepiece of this composition is a powerful image (credit: Unsplash) of a basketball player suspended mid-air, captured right before a thunderous dunk.

I wanted to elevate him above the clouds, surrounded by bold, dynamic script lettering that feels like it’s lifting him higher. The motivational phrases orbit around him, emphasising the weight of our inner dialogue, the true weight of the moment unveiled before our eyes through lettering. Not just a ball player but a human-being in the moment uplifted by more than just his feet — the words we tell ourselves can either propel us toward greatness or hold us back in mediocrity.

The composition blends rich volumetric lettering, textured depth, and dramatic atmosphere to capture that fleeting but powerful moment of pure commitment. It’s about rising above doubt, committing fully, and shooting your shot with everything you’ve got.
