ESL Research Project Copyeditor

This author came to me with their research project that needed significant editing to ensure that the message was compressible and sounded like native English.

His research paper was very technical as it focused primarily on finance and equity management topics, and with English as his second language, he sought my assistance to ensure that his work was clear and understandable.

My Role:

I read through his research paper once without making any changes to understand the topic and concepts that the author was attempting to convey. I also took notes while I did this. Then, I began to read the paper a second time with the full context of the research paper in mind, and I began making edits and suggestions.

Copy Edits and Proofreading:

I provided small copy edits and proofreading edits for grammar, spelling, formatting, and word choice.

Line Editing:

I rewrote sentences and changed their tone, word order, and word choice to ensure that the work sounded like native English. This was very important as the author also intend to present their findings to a panel of professors and peers.

Rewriting:

I added in my own writing in instances where I felt that areas needed clarification or further explanation that would help with the overall message and clarity of the piece. This requires an understanding of the author's purpose and goals so that I could ensure that his work was being delivered in a way that he intended.

Review:

In moments where I had questions for the author or needed clarification, I left detailed comments to further his writing. The author acted on this suggestions and I reviewed those instances a second time.

Why Me?

I am experienced in working with ESL individuals and I am extremely capable of editing pieces in order for it to sound like native English. I am multilingual, multicultural, and I have years of experience with international people.

I made the experience a personal and individual one. Even after the project was completed, I remained available for any further questions or reviews.

The author was extremely happy with the results and proud of the end product. I am confidant that with my assistance, this client was able to expertly convey his message.
