Boxing has been around since the time of the gladiators and isn't stopping anytime soon!
This project looks at boxing from the viewpoint of a 10-year-old boy. His love of the sport is activated when he begins learning how to box. As he gets older he begins to see it as a way to let out frustrations and get in a good workout. He discusses what equipment he feels is good to start out with and how training can help teenagers channel their energy and temperament in a creative outlet.
Here is a short excerpt from the article🟥
My fascination with boxing began in the fifth grade. The school bully was picking on a friend of mine and I wanted to stand up to him and make him leave my friend alone. While I wanted to be a good friend and stick up for him, I was also keenly aware that if I did that I would make myself his next target.
There was a boxing gym in the town where I grew up and a lot of the older kids hung out there after school. I went there a few days a week to try and pick up some pointers on what to do if I had to fight. I stood in the doorway watching the fighters that came in to train. I was amazed at their speed, their focus, and how they anticipated when to move and duck. It was awesome to a 10-year-old kid.
