In-house user research to improve the experience and usability most-used applications of Azure web portal, Microsoft's cloud computing hub. Specifically, the process of deleting resources.
In this study we guided users through a variety of new delete-pattern prototypes while collecting feedback and observing their pain points.
I designed and implemented the study, analyzed the data, and presented the outcomes to stakeholders.
PROBLEM
The resource-deletes process needed to improve functionality and efficiency, yet still needed to provide a level of safeguarding against accidental deletes. What time-saving features would diminish the user's confidence that they are not about to make a huge mistake? What features support that confidence?
PROCESS
Remotely moderated study of typical cloud portal users and users who delete resources in high volumes. Qualitative feedback, experience survey, side by side comparison. Analysis was done in Excel and R.
OUTCOMES
We delivered actionable feedback to the design and engineering teams. We recommended using a tiered system of delete patterns: The more critical delete processes would have increased safeguards and require more attention from the user, while simpler, less critical delete processes would be more streamlined and efficient.
