Niner Air 9 RDO: From Image to Carbon

This personal project was born from my passion for product and industrial design. I set myself the challenge of recreating the Niner Air 9 RDO, a carbon fiber mountain bike, from scratch. The goal was not only to model it accurately, but also to highlight the material transitions that define its unique frame design.

Strategic Challenge

The challenge was to capture the essence of a carbon fiber frame, with its flowing transitions and structural details, in a way that felt both technically precise and visually captivating.

Approach

CAD Modeling: Created the entire frame in PTC Creo, focusing on the geometry and transitions specific to carbon fiber design.
Material Studies: Explored surface continuity and flow to reflect the bike’s engineering intent.
Rendering Workflow: Used KeyShot to build realistic lighting setups, reflective surfaces, and hero shots.
Creative Angle: Produced a mix of clay renders and photorealistic images to showcase both the design process and the final product.

Creative Execution

Modeled the full carbon frame including all structural details.
Highlighted material transitions to tell the "story" of the bike’s carbon engineering.
Created high-end product renders with dynamic lighting and reflective ground planes.
Built a short animation to present the frame and final bike in motion.

Results & Impact

Delivered a 1-week project that became a cornerstone of my product visualization portfolio.
Successfully communicated both the engineering complexity and the premium aesthetic of the Niner Air 9 RDO.
Strengthened my workflow between CAD precision and visual storytelling.
