I did work as Game Designer, product designer, it's a real-time multiplayer cricket game. During the course of this project, I worked with multiple stakeholders, producers, lead UX architects, artists, engineers, and marketing teams to ship this product vision.
The first Real-Time Multiplayer Cricket game in the world. The user gets to play against Real Players all around the world. The Product is designed in such a way that it caters the users to hit any ball 360" while batting and score the highest. The user can also bowl a range of balls like Off Spin, Yorker, Leg-Spin, etc.
It is aimed at casual to mid-core mobile gamers from tier 2/3 cities. It is available on the Google Play Store. Expected to entertain and engage 1M+ cricket fans all over the world.
How can the game offer a better alternative gameplay experience to the audience who are already used to playing the competitor’s game? The game should attract a broader spectrum of audiences.
All-Star Cricket is a game designed to appeal to gamers of all ages and genders, by designing simple controls and UI which can be understandable even to a tier 3 city audience.
Based on stakeholder interviews, I began analyzing several of the competitor’s products. The goal was to understand the good and the bad bits of these products. Performing an audit/review of competing websites and apps is a great way to summarize the competitive landscape. It brings us clarity in differentiating the product’s unique selling point(USP). It also allows us to perform a “Heuristic Review” where we document usability flaws and other areas for improvement.
The design strategy started with a competitor analysis, which revealed the key points in understanding what brings users to sport/ Cricket games.
The following apps were considered for competitive research-
Some of the questions asked:
How do you discover new games?
What is your favorite mobile game and why?
How often do you play? For how long?
Have you ever played a cricket game? If yes then what did you like best about it? What did you like the least about it?
Some of the answers received:
Top Insights:
The users find new games once or twice a month, mostly browsing Play Store, sometimes through a friend's recommendation.
The users play mobile games on an average of 30-90 minutes a day.
The most frequent favorite cricket-type game is the surprise of discovering/ unlocking new characters or locations.
The common pain points are-
- Constant interruption with ads and blocking essential features behind paywalls.
- Some of the high graphic games won't run smoothly on a low-end device.
Overseeing and creating the entire design of a mobile game was a great experience for me. I enjoyed the challenge of collecting the right data for it in the beginning. If there were more time and budget, I think the game could have been further improved.
All-Star Cricket already has over +45% D1 retention rare in MVP, and 30% of revenue is coming from IAP, metrics have been exceptional over the domestic market.
