Hyte Did It Again

A Review of the THICC Q60 All-in-One CPU water cooler

The new THICC Q60 AIO CPU cooler and its soon-to-be-rolled-out sibling, the THICC Q80 Trio offer unprecedented cooling packed with incredible features. Cheekily named the acronym “Technology Harnessing Innovative Chonk for Cooling”, this big boi more than lives up to the massive cooling you’d expect from a 52mm thick 240mm radiator and 32mm thick fans, while also delivering a beefy 5” display, RGB lighting, and a no-cable philosophy that follows the path of Corsair’s iCue Link and Lian Li’s UNI fans for extreme convenience: from setup to cable management, to keeping your RGB and display controls all on the same software.

Aside from including larger (or perhaps, THICC-er) components at every level, the AIO sports some of the most innovative tech in the game:

  • The radiator utilizes a parallel dual-pass design with “harmonic” pumps operating parallel to each other to increase pressure and flow, and even the tubing used has an increased diameter to improve the flow rate, demonstrating the level of thoughtful attention to detail in the design.
  • The fans attached are also supercharged by fiberglass-reinforced liquid crystal polymers and boast ratings of “105.8 CFM airflow and 8.14 mm-H2O static pressure” that put the competition to shame.
  • The AIO is also a part of the unveiling of their full daisy-chaining ecosystem, and the Nexus Link primary node can support up to a whopping 34 devices (compared to Corsair iCue Link’s Hub which can only support up to 14) and sends thermal and positioning sensor data over a single cable.
  • There are also genuinely no visible cables from the CPU cooling block, despite the LCD screen, which has been difficult to achieve for other companies and makes a significant visual improvement for those of us invested in it–and with the emergence of BTF Motherboards announced at Computex that will hide cable connections, this no-cable look is also a savvy choice to appeal to future buyers as the market evolves in that direction. This may have been achievable due to the location of the pumps, but regardless you have to admire the commitment to remove the cables–which, as Hyte notes on the box, are indeed “gross” to many PC-building connoisseurs.

The main drawback for these coolers is right there in the title: this is one Chonky cooler, and it is not the optimal choice for someone with a smaller case. In fact, with the thickness of the radiator and attached fans, as well as the unusually large size of the display on the CPU block, any consumer should expect to research how much space they have in their case and whether their motherboard is also a compatible size before purchasing. That being said, for those who enjoy a larger case to show off their tech, or just generally don’t mind the size and have the space to accommodate it, the performance you can get out of this adorably chunky cooler is unparalleled, and its seamless compatibility with Hyte’s most popular cases (the Y60 and Y70) makes it a very desirable option for fans of the brand.

Not to mention, they’ve essentially outdone Corsair’s iCue link system in terms of both cable reduction and connectable devices, at a time where they’ve largely dominated the daisy-chaining market–before we even talk about the cooling performance, which is nothing to sneeze at. Cinebench performance metrics for this AIO actually beat out the Corsair iCue Link H150i 360mm AIO by about 5 degrees. And the pricing is right on par: at this moment, the mentioned Corsair AIO is listed at $329.99 without discounts to the THICC Q60’s $299.99.

We can only hope to see all of these THICC Q-ties and their Q80 Trio counterparts soon, and it looks like we will get them in a matching color array to the Hyte Cases for some truly unique and beautiful, fully Hyte-cooled systems–I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed for the Snow White version!
