Sound City

Fictional music-brand logo animation

Overview

Sound City is a self-directed logo-animation concept for a fictional music brand. The piece explores how procedural sound-wave motion, instrument morphs, and precise logo timing can turn a simple brand reveal into a sequence that feels connected to audio and music culture.

What I explored

Logo animation
Procedural waveform motion
After Effects expressions
Instrument shape morphing
Secondary motion and timing

The Creative Challenge

A hand-keyframed waveform can feel repetitive or mechanical. The motion needed irregularity and variation so it could suggest sound while still supporting a clean logo reveal.

The Process

Rather than animate the wave by hand, it was generated procedurally: After Effects expressions driving randomized shape values produced a waveform with real, non-repeating variation, the kind of irregularity that reads as authentic instead of looped. The logo's reveal was then matched and timed to that generated wave, rather than the other way around.
Logo matching
The best part about this animation was the creation of the morphing between the different instruments, which is mainly to convey continuity in the animation
