Project Overview:

Grandma’s Kitchen is a Lebanese restaurant located in the heart of Los Angeles, offering a rich experience of Southern Lebanese cuisine. The project aimed to capture the essence of Lebanese tradition through an inviting and warm website design that reflects the restaurant’s identity and hospitality. Our goal was to create a digital space where customers could feel the warmth and authenticity of Lebanese food, even before stepping into the restaurant.

My Role:

I served as the lead designer on this project, handling everything from initial research and concept development to UI/UX design and final delivery. I utilized Framer as the primary tool for creating a highly engaging and responsive website, ensuring it was easy to navigate while maintaining a warm and inviting mood.

Project Details:

The design process began with an in-depth exploration of Lebanese culture, specifically its culinary traditions. The goal was to translate this rich heritage into a digital form. Here’s how the process unfolded:
Onboarding with the Client: The project kicked off with an onboarding session where I discussed the client’s vision for the website, the brand values, and the emotional experience they wanted to deliver to their customers. This allowed me to understand the core essence of Lebanese culture that they wanted reflected in the website. Through this step, we aligned expectations, discussed key features, and set the overall project timeline.

Inspirations & Mood board: I started by analyzing competitors in the restaurant space, focusing on how they portray authenticity in design. I then created a mood board that highlighted warm colors, traditional textures, and authentic imagery.

Wireframes & Information Architecture: Once the overall look and feel were decided, I crafted wireframes to ensure the site would offer an intuitive and seamless user experience. Clear navigation and calls-to-action were prioritized to drive customer engagement.

UI/UX Design in Framer: The design embraced earthy tones, smooth textures, and authentic visuals of Lebanese cuisine to evoke the comforting feel of a family kitchen. Framer allowed me to seamlessly combine aesthetics and functionality for a cohesive user experience.

Challenges & Solutions:

One of the challenges was balancing a modern design approach while preserving the restaurant's traditional values. Through iterative feedback and revisions, I ensured that both the contemporary design elements and the warm, inviting feel of the restaurant were equally represented.

Technologies Used:

Figma (for documentation and collecting data)
Framer (for design and development)
Custom photography and graphic elements

Outcome / Results:

The resulting website design effectively communicates Grandma's Kitchen's unique Lebanese identity and culture. Customers browsing the site are greeted with a friendly and warm atmosphere, just like they would be in the restaurant itself. The final design also integrates smooth navigation for menu exploration and highlights the distinctiveness of the restaurant's offerings through clear visual storytelling. The website captures the heart and soul of Lebanese food, providing a digital experience that invites users to taste the tradition before they even arrive.
