Homepage Redesign for Redefine Blue Collar

Project: Revamping the homepage for Redefine Blue Collar, a platform focused on empowering the blue-collar workforce and connecting workers to job opportunities. The aim was to create a homepage that is not only visually engaging but also speaks directly to the audience, encouraging them to interact and explore the platform.

The Challenge The previous homepage did not effectively reflect the platform's mission of uplifting blue-collar workers. It lacked clarity in messaging and had a somewhat outdated design that didn't cater to the user experience. The challenge was to build a homepage that conveyed professionalism while remaining approachable, with a strong focus on user engagement and clear navigation.

My Role As the lead designer for this project, I took on multiple responsibilities, including:

Crafting the design vision through a thorough discovery phase and collaboration with SDSD.

Developing wireframes and prototypes to organize content in an intuitive way.

Designing a visually appealing and functional homepage that aligns with the company’s brand and mission.

Working alongside the development team to ensure a smooth and accurate implementation.

Discovery & Insights To kick things off, I delved into researching Redefine Blue Collar’s target audience, understanding their pain points, needs, and the platform’s goals. This insight helped in designing a solution that felt personal and directly relevant to the blue-collar workforce.

Wireframing & Prototyping The wireframe phase focused on defining the page structure. I prioritized content clarity, ensuring that key information such as services, job opportunities, and resources was easily accessible. This was followed by interactive prototypes to test functionality and flow.

Visual Design Building on the wireframes, I created high-fidelity mockups that incorporated bold visuals, easy-to-read typography, and engaging calls to action. The design used a warm, welcoming color palette and imagery that connected with the hardworking nature of the platform’s audience.

Collaboration & Refinement I worked closely with SDSD and the development team, refining the design based on feedback and ensuring the technical constraints were addressed. The process was iterative, involving frequent check-ins to ensure the design met both aesthetic and functional goals.

Lessons Learned This project reinforced the importance of understanding the user’s needs and designing with empathy. A design can be professional yet approachable, and this homepage succeeded in striking that balance. The collaborative process and user-centered approach resulted in a final product that aligned with Redefine Blue Collar’s values and vision.
