I do only targeted activities that have the higher chances to convert your audiences' awareness/engagement into business result.
For many cases, I also pitch the release directly to each journalist to maximize distribution and reduce cost. As a result, it works to get higher reach and organic engagement, especially if your release are from B2B industry or any industry that many people are not familiar with, and many B2B companies' PR management works really well with this approach.
